The Need

In digital investment platforms, trust, clarity, and emotional connection are essential to user engagement. For HSBC Investments, the challenge was to create a portal that truly resonated with the homebroker audience, a highly active, decision-driven user base that interacts with financial data under constant pressure and volatility.

 

Previous attempts focused on introducing new features and interface innovations, yet adoption and engagement remained low. The underlying issue was not functionality, but a misalignment between the visual identity of the platform and the mindset of its users. The interface failed to reflect how homebroker clients perceive risk, speed, and control.

 

There was a clear need to rethink the portal experience from a user-centered perspective, going beyond traditional financial aesthetics. Understanding the emotional drivers of the audience became critical. Direct engagement with users revealed a strong affinity with adventure, adrenaline, and high-performance activities, traits closely aligned with the way homebroker clients approach investment decisions.

 

The need, therefore, was to redesign the HSBC Investments portal with a visual and experiential language that matched the psychological profile of the homebroker client, delivering a renewed interface that conveyed energy, confidence, and control. By aligning brand, experience, and user identity, the platform could foster deeper engagement and restore relevance in a highly competitive digital investment landscape.

My Role and Key Results

My responsibilities:

Led the product and experience strategy for the redesign of the HSBC Investments portal, aligning brand, UX, and interface design with the mindset and decision-making behavior of homebroker clients.

Conducted deep user and stakeholder validation to understand emotional drivers such as risk perception, speed, control, and confidence in high-volatility investment scenarios.

Defined the end-to-end user experience, UI, and interaction design, translating complex financial data into a high-performance, intuitive, and emotionally resonant interface.

Provided art direction and visual language definition, moving beyond traditional financial aesthetics to create a differentiated, energy-driven investment experience.

Partnered closely with product, business, and technology teams to ensure performance, usability, and reliability under real-time, data-intensive market conditions.
